Blackberry stuff I like

After having my Blackberry Pearl for a few months and upgrading to an unlimited data plan, we have found certain applications to be particularly useful. Specifically those related to mapping and gps. For our trip to LA we used Google Maps Mobile almost exclusively for current directions, maps and satellite views. Then we used GPSed for keeping a track log of our adventures as well as providing basic information such as altitude, heading, speed and so on. The two applications combined are unbeatable for the best GPS experience and it's just perfect for the traveler.

Apple Feedback

On the fence again

Okay, so I dropped MS for Apple software, namely because I know it's scriptable and I am attempting to learn some applescript, but... I have been annoyed at a few things as of late. A few months ago I acquired a Blackberry Pearl, which I would not have done so if it weren't for the fact that it was supposed to sync with the mac. However, it turns out that the software provided by Blackberry licks asshole like none other. There is costly 3rd party software, but why should I have to pay for it to work, Blackberry should have had a flawless system for them to even suggest it works with mac. Anyway, my problem is that while MS is not very Mac-like, it does work, even if I don't care for the appearance of it, it is very customizable, and scriptable, although I couldn't say if any of this would work better with the blackberry if I did use MS.

The problems I've been having is that Mail keeps needing a rebuild, synching with the Blackberry for Contacts has been nothing but trouble and I think it is due to the non-standard way in which Apple stores address book information. The question is what exactly do I need?

I know that I want the ability to keep my phone and other PIM information synchronized, they need to be the same. The most important of these is the address book. If I add a phone number on my phone I want it to be synced with my computer and vice versa.

Second is I need my email to work properly. I need the program to not require a rebuild every time it gets confused about downloading mail. But I want it scriptable. I only need access to my newest email on my phone, although access to older ones is good too. For some reason, the all mail feature on Gmail is not showing all mail, I wonder if that means it thinks it has been deleted.

In any case I'm not sure what to do here. Apple's products aren't as well made as they should be and MS has little bugs I don't like. At the moment I'm using google sync on the blackberry to keep it up to date with what is on my google profile. It works okay, but again it seems to delete or change entries instead of updating them to the most useful information. At this point I'm a little drunk and probably should end this blog until such time I can make good sense.
